We see lots of mama cats at the shelter, but Smurf has been a legendary mother! Smurf came to us as a scared, pregnant girl with nowhere to go to deliver her litter. We brought her into the rescue, and she was able to safely give birth to three kittens. As her boys grew older, she has taken in additional orphaned kittens and cared for them as her own without a second thought!
Smurf has watched her kittens learn to trust us, and slowly she has been realising that people only want to help her. With the promise of wet food (which she is not picky about!), she has learned the power of a routine, which contributes to her feeling of safety.
Mama Smurf is now ready to break free from her duties as a mother and kitten guardian! Smurf would do best in a quiet environment, with a regular routine, and perhaps a gentle furry companion. She hasn't been tested with kids, dogs, or adult cats, but given how she cares for kittens, she will likely do well after gentle introductions.
